Upsell step
The Upsell step is a one-time offer shown after checkout and before Success. Visitors already paid for the main plan; here they can add an extra product or bonus for a separate charge, or skip and continue.
When to use it
- Add a workbook, template pack, or bonus feature right after the first purchase
- Test a higher-margin add-on without changing the main paywall
- Keep the main checkout simple and save the second offer for buyers who are already committed
Typical flow
Paywall → Checkout → Upsell → Success
Connect Checkout to Upsell, then Upsell to Success. If you skip the upsell step, visitors go straight from checkout to success as before.
What you configure
| Area | What it does |
|---|---|
| Offer | Headline, subheadline, optional badge, bullet list, optional image |
| Pricing | Price and optional compare-at (struck-through) price in the plan currency |
| Buttons | Accept and decline button labels |
Set the price in the editor (smallest currency unit, for example 1999 = $19.99). The add-on is charged as a one-time payment on top of the main order.
Visitor experience
- After the main payment succeeds, the visitor lands on the Upsell screen.
- Accept opens an inline payment form for the add-on amount.
- Decline (or finishing payment) sends them to Success with the same access details as the main purchase.
- The offer is shown once per session — going back in the browser does not charge twice.
Stripe and one-time main plans
Post-purchase upsell works with Stripe when the main plan is a one-time charge. It is not available when Paddle is the active processor or when the main plan is a subscription.
Access stays on the main purchase
The upsell is an extra charge. It does not replace the main subscription or access code from checkout. Configure copy so visitors know what the add-on includes.
Tips
- Keep the offer clearly related to what they just bought.
- Use compare-at price to show savings on the add-on.
- Review accept/decline rates under Analytics → Growth Add-ons → Post-purchase Upsell.
